Physics of Sports Video
Analysis of project
For this project, we were asked to make a video about a specific sport and figure out the physics in it. My group and I chose to do pitching a fastball. I was in a group with Anthony, Ben and Hana. We have been working on this project for the past month, so we hope you like it.
We started the process of creating our movie by designing a storyboard. It was very helpful to have the storyboard done before filming, because then we knew exactly what we needed to film. After we finished our storyboard, we went to the baseball field to start filming. Filming was one of the most challenging parts of this whole project. It took a while to get the videos so that the sun wasn't glaring too much on Anthony's iPhone. After we finished filming, we had to edit the videos and record our voices on our computer system. We had to re-record our voices so many times before we could get everything right. In the end though we were able to get everything done in time.
I am very happy with how our project turned out and I can't wait for the next one. It has been an exciting and informative month.

Concepts
Force- A push or pull. Force= mass x acceleration. It is measured in Newtons. We calculated that Anthony exerts 150.4 N of force on his back leg when he lifts his front leg up.
Velocity- It is the rate of change of the position of an object. Velocity= distance/ time. It is measure in m/s. We figured out that the ball has a horizontal velocity of 22.17 m/s and a vertical velocity of 8.3545 m/s. We used the pythagorean to find the total velocity which is 23.69 m/s
Momentum- Force or speed of movement. Momentum= mass x velocity. It is measured in kg m/s or N s. The momentum of the ball as it will hit the glove is 3.2 N s.

Reflection
I had a lot of fun during this project. I got to have more experience working in a group and I learned how to make a movie. We did however run into some difficulties. One difficulty was communication. We were all huddled around one computer and it was hard to make sure all of our ideas were heard. Another difficulty was time management. We were one of the last groups done. We spent too much time taking videos and trying to edit every video. Next time I am going to make sure we stay on schedule and don't wait too long to do unfinished things. We did also have some peaks and pits. Our peaks were making our storyboard and editing videos. We were able to agree on our storyboard in one period. We figured how to edit our videos on the computer system really quickly. Our pits were taking videos and recording voices. It took too long to get the right video for each section of the project. We also had to take way too many retakes on our recordings. All in all it was a fun project and I can't wait to see what we have planned next.
