Thermal Energy-it is the energy a substance or system has, related to its temperature(the energy of moving or vibrating molecules). Thermal energy will always be increasing because it is the energy lost from the potential energy, and potential energy is always decreasing. In our project, the car's thermal energy slowly increases for the first 1.5 meters, then it starts to get a lot steeper for the next 3 meters, and finally it gets a little less steep for the next .5 meter.
Kinetic Energy(KE)-energy due to movement. KE=1/2mv^2. The kinetic energy in our car increases for 1.5 meters and then decreases for the rest of the 5 meters.
Potential Energy(PE)-it is the energy stored in an object due to its position in a force field or in a system due to its configuration. PE=mgh. The potential energy in our car goes done almost at a constant rate.
Velocity-it is the rate of change of the displacement, the difference between the final and initial position of an object. V=d/t. The velocity of the car increases for the first 2 meters and then it reaches its terminal velocity. It slowly decreases for the next 2 meters and finally decreases really fast for the last meter.
Total Energy-it is the total amount of energy in something. Our total amount of energy was 3.75 Joules.

We have just finished our latest project, the hybrid car. It has been a really fun time building our cars and testing different ways to move them. Our task was to make a car that could go exactly 5 meters and stop. We had a couple of ideas, but we decided on a rubber band and string powered car. The rubber band and string powered car went perfectly. It took only two days to build that car and get it to propel itself 5 meters. We definitely had some pits and peaks in our project. Our pits were the balloon powered car and our wheels on our actual car. The balloon powered car was our first idea. The car could only propel itself .5 of a meter. The wheels on our actual car went sideways when we glued them on. We were going to take them off and glue them back on, but we decided that might mess things up more. The peaks in our project were time management and the rubber band powered car idea. It only took us 2 days to build that car. The rubber band car idea worked most of the time and we finished the whole project before any other group. I learned that if you make a schedule, it can really help you a lot with time management. Time management is a great life skill to have. My group and I could have probably worked on making the car get to the 5 meter mark a little more often, and worked on our presentation a little longer, too. I will continue to improve on my building skills and public speaking skills as the year goes on. I can't wait to see what we get to do for our next project.
